08 Nov News: “Briomobile” Delivers Free Ice Cream to Community Events on Oahu
HONOLULU, HI — October 29, 2015 — Oahu residents: be on the lookout for the new brightly colored Brio van, delivering Brio ice cream to community events island wide.
Brio ice cream has put the finishing touches on a colorful new van that will be used primarily to deliver Brio’s delicious and nutritious ice cream to community events on Oahu.
The new “Briomobile” features large photos of luscious bowls of ice cream on the outside, and is large enough to transport the company’s refrigerated ice cream street cart and oversized coolers filled with Brio ice cream to community events.
During the past month, the Brio van has delivered donated ice cream to hundreds of Honolulu residents at the following events:

Marathon Readiness Series: Brio 25K Run
Sunday, Oct. 4
Brio provided free ice cream for the runners and also sponsored the 25K running race, part of the Honolulu Marathon Readiness Series. Brio attended all of the Marathon Readiness Series events during Honolulu’s very hot summer, to help the runners cool off with free ice cream.
“Since spring, Brio has also provided free ice cream at the Warrior Welcome at University of Hawaii, Healthy Choices Week at Hawaii Pacific University, the Boy Scouts Makahiki event at Ala Moana Beach Park and others,” says Bonnie Leong, Brio’s Outreach and Events Manager. “We even distributed ice cream to the swimmers at the starting line of the cancelled Waikiki Roughwater Swim.”
This new healthy ice cream was the dream of Maui resident Arnie Koss, and his twin brother, Ron. Back in the 1980s, the duo had launched Earth’s Best Baby Food, the nation’s first organic baby food.
Their inspiration for a healthier ice cream came from their mom, who had asked if they could find a way to make ice cream – one of her favorite foods – into a healthier everyday snack. To achieve this goal, the Koss twins assembled a team that included two former Ben & Jerry’s flavor developers plus dietitians and nutritionists. The product development process took nearly ten years, and included lab testing at Cornell University and two patents.
The result is non-GMO, certified gluten free Brio ice cream, which delivers all of the creaminess and delicious flavor of premium ice cream, yet has half the fat, saturated fat and calories, as well as fewer calories and less sugar.
Brio is also a nutrition powerhouse with balanced Omega 3-6-9s, 6 grams of protein, 2 grams of prebiotic fiber and 24 essential micronutrients, including 30% of the DV of calcium, plus folate, B vitamins, Vitamin D and magnesium.
Brio is available in five rich flavors, all of which are prepared without any artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners and made with r-BST-free whole milk. They include Tropical Mango, Mellow Dark Chocolate, Vanilla Caramel, Spring Strawberry and Coffee Latte. They are available in single-serve containers (ideal for portion control) and 14 oz. pints.
“At our events, we repeatedly hear that people are amazed that an ice cream that’s so nutritious is so rich, creamy and satisfying,” says Arnie Koss. “I am very happy to be serving a treat that is not only fun to eat, but good for you, too.”
Brio provides an excellent after school snack for kids, an electrolyte-rich post workout replenishment, a nourishing replacement for an afternoon coffee drink, and a crowd-pleasing dessert. Ounce for ounce, Brio provides more nutrition than the top liquid nutrition products, and is much more pleasing.
Brio can be found at all Don Quijote stores on Oahu, as well as at Foodland, Sack N Save and KTA Superstores. Starting in November, Brio will be available at all of the military commissaries on Oahu.
In the weeks ahead, you can enjoy free samples of Brio at the Tour de Cure benefit for Honolulu’s local chapter of the American Diabietes Foundation, at the Marathon Readiness run and at product sampling demos at the stores that carry Brio.
